The Harvestsum snowglobe has been thoroughly shaken once more and we’ve all reshuffled into a bunch of new projects. It seems like everyone around here has either a new band or a new record they’re all excited about.
So, since you don’t know anything about us anymore I’ll be doing my best in the coming weeks to keep this site updated with all the latest comings and goings in Harvest-ville these days. I promise this site will fill your life with excitement and mystery for all eternity. Also, your cd drive will start spitting out twenties any minute now. Yes, I know the PHP code for that. I’m something of a computer prodigy.
OK, since I’m currently losing my mind I’m gonna stop typing and immediately fall asleep.
As usual, feel free to e-mail me at mnosowicz[at]gmail.com for whatever reason. Even just to type random words in all caps.
talk to you soon,

Spring is kind of finally here in Buffalo. (Although as I type this there are severe snow warnings flashing on my tv) Outside my apartment there is a constant stream of Buffalonians looking walking the streets with dazed looks on their faces. Its kind of like a happy zombie movie or something. Anyway. . .
Spring in Harvest-ville is traditionally when a lot of us wake up and decide to get things moving a little faster. This year will be no different. New records from several harvestsum artists, including Johnny Nobody and Nick Gordon are planned for spring release. I’ll be making official announcements about a couple Harvestsum showcases once a few details are ironed out.
I also have a loooong checklist of improvements to make to this website which I think will make it a bit more interesting and useful. (I will not be starting a HS-dating service, however. Apologies to those of you who emailed your requests.)
So we’ve done a couple of these already, but this one will be a little different. I’m most likely going to update this page a few times over the next week or two as information changes and details become more solid, but heres what we know so far:
Harvestsum/Joysdead present My Bloody Valentines Day 3
A few of us are recording some valentines-themed songs for promotion of this show. Make sure you’re on our mailing list to receive a harvestsum valentine this year!
I know this post is a bit bare bones, but I’ll be adding to it with new information soon. In the meantime, leave a comment if you know something I don’t.
Last month we hatched our evil plan to start the wheels at harvestsum turning again. If you’ve ever tried to get a car going after letting it sit for a few months you might have some idea of the long list of repairs we needed to address before we turned the key. A month later I still feel like I’m driving around without power steering or brakes, but at least I’m driving.
I almost just wrote a line about how we’ll be fine if we don’t get pulled over or something, but luckily I realized how fucking stupid this car metaphor is and saved us all the trouble.
Anywayyyyyy, we’ve got a lot going on this December so I thought I’d make this an official “december update” and put it in writing.
We’re looking forward to a new split 7″ from Roger Bryan and Johnny Nobody coming out soon. I personally haven’t even heard the songs yet, but I’ve been assured they’re not nickelback covers or anything so I think we’re gonna be OK on this one. I’m hoping to get sound samples up on the site before the month is up.
The Lochs (full disclosure – I am in the lochs) are finishing up the greatest record ever recorded. Even if it ends up being $50. you should totally buy several copies.
A certain other Harvestsum band is recording semi-secretly. I can’t say who it is, but here’s a really obvious hint: I talked on the phone once to someone who mentioned this band to someone else the day before.
A couple great Harvestsum showcases are in the works, including an acoustic x-mas concert and the third annual My Bloody Valentines Day. We’ll have complete announcements once we iron out more of the details.
And with that, I drive this car-metaphor of an update off the proverbial cliff. (you see what i did there???)
I’ve often had talks with many of the bands I record about how important doing a couple low-budget promo videos could be for them. Many of the bands agree, some of them even seem genuinely enthused by the idea. But so far only one has gone out and made it happen.
Besnyo are men of action. Here is what hopefully will be the first of many harvestsum music videos to come.

the video is about 2 garbage bags that fall in love.

Those of you who bothered to check harvestsum.com for the past few months have undoubtedly begun to wonder what the heck was going on. Our “temporary” website had been up for months, our showcases have been infrequent at best, and those of you on our mailing list haven’t heard from us in a while.
In the meantime, however, theres been plenty happening in harvest-ville. A new LP from Roger Bryan + co. and great CD releases from new friends Bearhunter and Nick Gordon are only some of the many projects we’ve been working on. In some cases I’ve just been too busy to work on internet projects like harvestsum.com.
In the back of my mind though, I knew I had to get this thing up and running smoothly again. Not only that, I wanted it to be ridiculously informative. Like, way-too-much-info-informative. You’d be able to view Besnyo’s dental records and watch 24hr webcam coverage of Johnny Nobody’s kitchen. You’d be able to ask Roger Bryan what instant coffee he prefers at 4:30 am and get an instant holographic answer of him dressed as princess leia telling you maxwell house is your only hope. As per usual, I had no problem thinking big, but when it came to figuring out how to program 3d holograms it was slow going. So onwards to plan B we go.
I hope this site will be a hub of whats happening right now with all our crazy friends. I also hope you won’t hesitate to let me know if you’ve got any ideas for it. As you read this now theres probably a few things around here that aren’t working so well yet, but cut me some slack, at least it doesn’t send you to a scandinavian porn-site anymore.
See you soon,

Here’s a great review from Artvoice on the latest Bearhunter CD. Available now on itunes, by the way.
bearhunter in their natural subterranean habitat
BEARHUNTER Self-titled (Harvest Sum) While Bearhunter is relatively new to Buffalo’s tight-knit music scene, they have already made an impression. Is it only a matter of time before they’re its stars? Who knows. Are they as good as any band in Buffalo? Bet on it, every bit. Brothers Mike and Dave Calos and Rob Pusateri have hit the motherlode. For their first full-length release it sounds like the Buffalo trio has hit on a tantalizing rock middle ground that manages to slip between a Dinosaur Jr and Pavement style slack rock and riff-pounded, post-Zep heavy rock.
While this self-titled album represents an elemental combination of indie-colored sensibilities along with real rock values—like no fear of guitar solos or a blues base—there’s even more to like in Bearhunter’s delivery. They have a tightness that can take a band years to work up to and don’t shy from a warm pop side underneath the overloaded amps that’s never far away and bubbles up in harmonies, virally catchy choruses, and slick drumming.
The one other thing is that Dave Calos seems to be a real frontman, something that is sorely lacking in so many bands. There’s little posturing here as he sings and plays guitar like he means it and does both not so much with zeal but definitely with purpose. The entire band exudes purpose, really. There’s little flashy about them: They are dudes playing in a rock band and that can be a beautiful thing, especially when done with the palpable grace and purpose that Bearhunter manages. Wannabes take note: Here’s the real thing. – Artvoice Magazine
